City of stones

Day 1: Cochabamba / Torotoro / Humajalanta

Departure in private transportation from Cochabamba to the Torotoro National Park. After lunch, visit to the cave of Humajalanta, Bolivias deepest cave with more than 7km long. It shows big rooms with impressive stalactites, stalagmites, waterfalls and underground lagoons where blind, white fishes swim. Dinner at the hotel and lodging.

Day 2: Torotoro canyon

The day begins with a hiking tour in a dried up river where it is possible to see the ancient tracks of dinosaurs. Little lagoons and a natural theatre are boarding the river bedding. Next to the river a sky bridge offers a splendid panoramical view over the canyon with the Torotoro river beneath.

The road continues down into the 350m deep canyon, this takes around 1 ½ hours. When following the river in the valley, it is possible to hear and/or see the famous red and green coloured parrots as well as many waterfalls. The most impressive one however are those of El Vergel, where people can swim. Afterward we are going back to the cars via the same way we entered. This means that more than 1000 stairs needs to be climbed.

Day 3: City of stones (Itas)

Transfer to the city of stones, located at an altitude of 3800m, where the villages of Yunguma and Ovejeria are located. These villages cover enormous, attractive and unique rock formations. Water and wind has created impressive stones tunnels and rocks in the shape of ancient animals and trees. Red walled paintings can also be found together with a rich Andean fauna and flora such as vizcachas, foxes and condors.

Day 4: Siete Vueltas / Cochabamba

Transfer to Siete Vueltas, considered one of the most important fossil deposits of Bolivia. Thousands of fossils from brachiopods, cephalopods to crimonides stalks can be seen in the rocks. In “Wiliu”, before the arrival in Siete Vueltas, it is possible to see tourtles and fishess petrified teeth. Lunch in the hotel and return to Cochabamba.
