Oruro's Carnival

Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
Carnaval de Oruro

DAY 1.

Very early departure by bus to the city of Oruro. Arrival and settling on the reserved stands to watch the wonderful Carnival de Oruro. The Carnival of Oruro had its origins in the ancestral Andean worship services to the Pachamama (mother earth), tio Supay (the devil) and the Candelaria Virgin or Virgen del Socavon. This fabulous carnival is one of the biggest events of cultural expression in Latin America.

In year 2001, UNESCO declared it "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" thereby acknowledging the outstanding religious and cultural value that this feast expresses through dance and music. This feast highlights the faith of the dancers and the incredible work of artisans; both of which are the most appealing features of the feast. In the evening, check in the hotel and stay overnight.
