Mountaineering the Sajama (6,542 m / 21,450 ft)

Tour of 4 days to reach the top of the Sajama mountain, the highest in Bolivia. Overnight in the Tomarapi community, camp at 5,700 m / 18,699 ft.

DAY 1. La Paz / Tomarapi shelter

Private trip to Tomarapi at 4,330 m/14,204 ft (4 hours). Then 15 minutes driving to the end of the road, and two hours trek through the highest queñua forest in the world, to the elevated shelter at 4.600 m/15,090 ft. (L, D)

DAY 2. Shelter / high camp

A 4 ½ stony trek, ascending to the west cornice, rarely snow cover until, the last section, is very steep and loose before the high camp, sculpted in platforms at 5,700 m/18,699 ft. (B, L, D)

DAY 3. Sajama Summit / Tomarapis hotel

The  first segment in the glacier, is a 40º wall which leads to a sharp ridge between rocks and ice, then many switchbacks ascend the volcanic frost cone until the top, near 5 hours.  Descend to high camp (2 hours) and the shelter (2 hours), soft walk to hotel Tomarapi. (B, L, D)

DAY 4. Tomarapi Hotel / thermal springs / La Paz

Relaxing day, driving to Kasilla thermal springs and then trip back to La Paz. (B, L)
